David De Gea’s future at Manchester United has been a recurring subject of discussion in recent weeks – alongside the debate over who could fill his void between the sticks at Old Trafford.
Several candidates have been mooted but one of the more recent comes in the form of Kasper Schmeichel (son of Red Devils legend Peter) who is United’s first choice to replace De Gea according to Sky Sports – amid claims the Spain international is ‘expected’ to leave for Real Madrid.
The Danish international was a crucial part of the Leicester City squad that unexpectedly claimed the 2015/16 Premier League title and he’s produced strong form yet again this term despite the Foxes sliding down the table – arguably even out-performing De Gea, as shown by our infographic.
With that in mind, we asked Red Devils fans earlier this week whether they’d back a summer swoop for the 30-year-old, who is rated by Transfermarkt at £6.8million (although we at FootballFanCast reckon he’d set the club back quite a bit more).
And according to the results of our exclusive poll, 58% of United fans reckon Schmeichel is the man to succeed De Gea at Old Trafford. Do you agree with the majority, or should the Red Devils target someone else? Let us know by commenting below…
