Liverpool have named Mo Salah as their August Player of the Month in a decision which has caused uproar amongst the fans.
Typically, there were a few stand-out performers for the Reds over the last few weeks. Virgil van Dijk was his consistent self whilst Adrian filled in for the injured Alisson without fuss and even proved to be an Anfield hero through his Super Cup antics.
However, Roberto Firmino is the player who many fans think is the worthy winner, and his two goals and two assists in four Premier League games is evidence that their view is a reasonable one.
By comparison, Salah struck three times in the same period, one of which was a penalty, and although an outstanding solo goal may have influenced the decision, he also came under fire for his failure to pass when his teammates were in a promising position against Burnley.
Furthermore, of the Reds squad only the Brazilian was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month, and therefore the fans’ dismay, as shown below, is to be expected.
