Lionel Messi has appeared somewhat frustrated in Inter Miami's recent matches. Despite securing a 4-1 home victory against the NY Red Bulls – a match in which the Argentine star scored one of the goals – he previously seemed a bit frustrated with the team's three-game losing streak.
That run included their elimination in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup and a 4-3 loss to FC Dallas, which marked Miami's first defeat of the MLS season.
Ahead of Saturday's match against Minnesota United, Miami manager Javier Mascherano spoke about his captain's current mindset.
"Leo is a competitive beast – it’s normal," Mascherano said. "Those of us who’ve known him for a long time understand how demanding he is, not only with himself but also with those around him."
The Herons are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points, and a win over Minnesota could put them back near the top of the standings.

Mascherano’s success since his arrival at Inter Miami has been mixed. In the 18 games he has managed, he has won 11, drawn three, and lost four. Three of those four losses came consecutively and included the team’s elimination in the semifinals of the Champions Cup against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Argentine coach spoke about the possibility of strengthening the squad ahead of the Club World Cup.
"I think we need to focus on bringing in someone who truly strengthens us as a team. And yes, I’m exploring options," he said.
Mascherano pointed toward reinforcing The Herons' offense, saying "Well, to be more precise, the club is evaluating options – especially in the attacking front."

The Herons will visit Minnesota United in MLS. Mascherano spoke about the absences the team will face for the match, with Luis Suárez’s standing out.
“Drake [Callender] is injured, and the club will later provide an update on his condition. As for the others, Luis had to travel due to personal reasons, and everyone else – except for David Ruiz – is available for training. We’re still evaluating Baltasar [Rodríguez's] situation, as he’s coming back from an injury and we need to assess what’s best,” Mascherano explained.
