Huddersfield Town won promotion to the Premier League on Monday as they beat Reading on penalties in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, and it came as a blow to Leeds fans.
The Whites consider themselves to be the biggest club in Yorkshire and the Terriers – who had never played in the Premier League before – certainly caused a stir locally when they finished in the play-off positions and Leeds finished just outside in seventh.
United fans would have been hoping that David Wagner’s men slipped up against Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-finals or the Royals in the final, but it wasn’t to be as they won 4-3 on penalties following a dour goalless game across 120 minutes.
Leeds supporters were quick to have their say to their rivals’ promotion via social media, and they are worried that they are never going to hear the end of it.
