Dean Smith has renewed his contract with Aston Villa, a move that will keep him at Villa Park until 2023, as reported by the club’s official channels.
After signing the deal, Smith was quoted as saying: “I’m really happy to have committed my long term future to the Club. I’m looking forward to all the challenges that come with re-establishing Aston Villa as a top Premier League club.”
The club also came across as being delighted by the news.
Fans were also over the moon to see the manager committing his future to Villa, having taken them up to the Premier League through the play-offs.
It also helps that he grew up as a fan of the club and has an embedded relationship with those he is leading, as indicated by the fact one supporter called him “one of our own”.
He has also undoubtedly moved the team forward since taking over at the helm in 2018, with the club currently sitting 15th in the top tier.
While it is his achievements so far that have earned Smith his latest contract extension, it seems as though he has also won the fans’ loyalty since taking over.
Some fans have been stating that even if the team were to be relegated from the Championship, they would want the 48-year-old to stay to take the club forward again.
This comes with fans discussing the identity that he has been giving them, while they also believe he can turn them into a force.
