Glasgow Rangers turn their attention away from the transfer window after it slammed shut on Tuesday as they return to action in the Premiership tonight.
Michael Beale’s Light Blues travel away to face Hearts in the Scottish top flight after beating St. Johnstone 2-0 in their last outing in the division at Ibrox.
The new manager, who remains unbeaten in competitive matches since taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst during the break for the 2022 World Cup, could look to make changes to his starting XI to freshen the team up with a busy fixture list leaving players at risk of burnout.
New signing Nicolas Raskin is waiting on his work permit to come through and may not be available to feature in the match. Not to mention the fact that the gem has not had the chance to get to know his teammates in training and could need time to adjust to what the manager wants from the team.
This means that Gers fans should forget about the thought of the Belgian midfielder lining up in the XI against Hearts. However, one player they should be keen to see play is Croatian centre-forward Antonio Colak.
The forward made his injury comeback in the Premiership against St. Johnstone as a substitute last time out and Beale must now unleash the gem from the start to see if the forward can get back to his goalscoring best.
Alfredo Morelos led the line in the last match and assisted Glen Kamara’s goal but has only struck seven times in 20 appearances in the division and Colak has the potential to offer more at the top end of the pitch due to his outstanding goalscoring form since arriving in Glasgow.
These Premiership statistics show that the gem has been on fire in the Scottish top-flight this season and his Sofascore rating places him fourth in the squad, which suggests that the forward has been one of the top-performing players for the Light Blues in the division.
Earlier this term, journalist Josh Bunting hailed the former PAOK man as he Tweeted: “What a signing Antonio Colak has been for Rangers, he has everything, power, vision and he’s clinical.”
The aforementioned stats back that up and suggest that the 29-year-old would be an upgrade on Morelos in the number nine position if Beale can get the marksman back fit and firing in the coming weeks – starting with tonight’s match against Hearts.
