With the January transfer window almost here, rumours are starting to circulate about who could be moving club and where to.
And one name that has popped up heavily in recent weeks is Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic with both Chelsea and Liverpool rumoured to be interested in the 20-year-old’s services.
The Breakdown
Jurgen Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of Pulisic with the Telegraph reporting that Liverpool have a long-standing interest in him, though Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to part ways with one of their prized assets in January.
On top of that, Chelsea’s interest in the USA international could make any potential deal with Dortmund a complicated and possibly more expensive one for Liverpool.
That being said, the Reds will be confident that they can see off any competition from their Premier League rivals for the Dortmund playmaker.
That, however, does not mean they should pay over the odds for a player they can cope without. With Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, there is not an urgent need for Pulisic.
There is no reason for why Klopp should not look to bolster his attack given the right opportunity presents itself, though. It is probably something that he needs to do if Liverpool are to close that gap with Manchester City.
But rather than Pulisic, the German boss would be better off going after another playmaker closer to being the finished article such as summer target Nabil Fekir.
Albeit not exactly like-for-like players in terms of position, the Frenchman is an individual who you could imagine coming in an making an instant impact compared to Pulisic who is still quite raw, which is understandable considering his age.
